ECO-BUILDING ON A SHOESTRING 9.30am – 1pm

How does one approach the question of low-cost eco-building?
What are the realities of giving an existing house an eco-makeover?
How can one work and self-build at the same time?
What about planning issues?
How easy is it to make and store one’s own electricity?
What’s the low-down on rainwater harvesting; compost toilets and growing food in the back garden?
These and many other questions will be answered in this Workshop which will include a Q&A session and illustrations of low-cost eco-buildings.

DREAM HOME 2.30pm – 6pm

Discovering the ways in which our homes can be shaped to accommodate change in our lives is the promise of this Workshop. Participants will be encouraged to think of their existing homes in fresh and exciting ways or to dream up a completly new house design to live in!
The workshop will also explore the impact a buildings ‘invisible architecture’ might have on its occupants.

Invisible Architecture covers all the unseen but nonetheless potent effects that a building can have on a persons life.
Does the building make one happy? Does it assist one in realising ones dreams? Is it a creative place? Does it foster positive feelings? Does it make one feel energised and empowered to initiate change?
This workshop will forwever change how you think of houses, life and yourself!

THE VENUE: Rock and Bird is a beautiful house situated on the river estuary right beside the sea in Wexford county. It is a sustainable living project that uses solar power/back boiler heating and solar gain through extensive glass windows. We have our reed bed for cleaning water and a well for drinking water. There is a beautiful lake on the land. We have a polytunnel and an organic veg garden. We plant trees each year and we have 16 hens 2 ducks and 5 baby chicks.

In July of this year we begin to build a classroom called “Sanctuary” to host many alternative and holistic workshops as well as it being a local space for the community to attend and host events. Watch this space!
